Bonjour les amis!

Just about twenty-four hours ago, Ben and I got back from the most amazing two-week vacation in France. We’d been dreaming and planning for ages, and the trip exceeded even our sky-high expectations. We spent the first week in Paris, sight-seeing, flea-market shopping, and eating, and then we spent the second week in a picture-perfect village called Beynac in the Dordogne region of southwestern France, sight-seeing, market shopping, and eating all over again! It was absolute heaven, and while I’m glad to be home again with our dogs and cats, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t missing France a little today…

But of course I have photos to console myself with! I took 3600+ digital photos while we were there and have fought through my jet lag to get them all transferred from memory cards to the computer. It will take me awhile to process them though, so in the meantime I thought I’d share scans of the instant photos I took with my new Fuji Instax 210 camera. It’s such a fun toy that I used up all the film I brought with me! You can also check out the photos I took with my iPhone throughout our travels over on flickr.

I have so much more to share about our trip, including the three beautiful places we stayed, so stay tuned. To whet your appetite, this first photo is the view from the bathtub in the loft of the amazing cottage where we stayed in Beynac…and yes, that’s a castle you see just a stone’s throw away!

The whole wide room

I got a new, wider-angle lens this week, so to test it out I took a few wider-angle shots of rooms in our house. I always think it’s nice when photos show how rooms are put together rather than just vignettes, so here you go! (For other camera nerds, the lens is a Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8. I love it so far!)

Emily - Emily! Gorgeous home!! Can I ask where the roman shades in your bedroom are from? They’re just what I’ve been looking for!

Emily - Thanks, Emily! Unfortunately, I can’t tell you where the shades in the bedroom are from because they were put there by the previous owners (who had very good taste, so I’ve never felt the urge to change them). But I’ve seen similar-looking shades in the past on Target.com and JCPenney.com. Good luck hunting!

Zyprezz - What a lovely home you have! I am enjoying all the nice photographs on your blog, so nice. Thanks for showing!

Have a great Sunday,

Ingrid (www.zyprezz.blogspot.com)

Sara - Beautiful home and photos!

Lana - Emily, thank you for sharing your wonderful home. I love the light and airy feeling.
Have fun with the new lens! :)

Jenn - Beautiful house! And thank you for the lens information, too.

heather - dying to know where you got your bedding? lovely lovely pics and lovely home!

Denise - What a beautiful home you have! There are SO many pieces that catch my eye. Do you mind sharing the make/design/source of your dining room chairs and the fabulous white chairs that are on your deck? (are they the same as the two you have sitting in front of your fireplace?)Thank you for sharing the pictures of your lovely home!!

EmilyKate - I love your mix of the modern white panton chairs with the older, dark dining table (Argh! I don’t know what that era that furniture is from! Or what it is called).

meenal - OMG…I don’t know how that happened..i had just written to let you know that i had used an image of your gorgeous dining room in my post today( wasn’t aware of the source at that time of posting)..I have now credited it and linked back to you..do check it out when you have a moment! xx meenal

Bernadette Angrand - Hi Emily! I just came across photos of your home (and your blog) via Stephmodo. I am crushing out on everything, but most especially on your farm table. Was this a vintage table? Any ideas where I can get something similiar?

I also love the roman shades in your bedroom. What material is it made of — it looks like heavy, rough cotton.

Thank you!

Snow in Dallas, y’all!

As promised, here are our “winter walk” photos from my real camera. You’ll notice that Ben fell down…a couple times. He will attest: the roads really are treacherous!
