My philosophy . . .

I love working with people who are fun.  Genuine.  Real.  And that’s what my photography is really all about: capturing the real you.  I can see the connections between the members of your family and the beauty in each one of you -- and that’s what I want to capture with my camera.

I don’t do the typical matching-outfits portraits, or the canvas-backdrop-strobe-lighting-say-cheese portraits.  I don’t want you to worry about having perfect hair, perfect smiles, and the kids on their best behavior.  Relax.  Have fun.  Be yourself.  I want to show you your family the way I see it through my lens: happy, beautiful, flawless in spite of the flaws.

So when I show up for your session, you don’t have to do any pretending.  Just be real.  I like t-shirts and jeans and flip-flops.  And jammies.  And mussed up hair and lollipop-stained faces.  I love hugs and tickle fights and peals of laughter, and snuggles and kisses too.  These things are real.  This is the way I want to remember my family, and it’s the way I want to help you remember yours.

Big news: digital files are here!

There are a few exciting new things happening around here at Emily McCall Photography.  First, you may notice a few improvements to the blog!  The biggest cosmetic change is the giant new flash header, and the most obvious functional improvements are the built-in twitter feed and easy “subscribe by email” button.  Also be sure to check out the cool new “my philosophy” and “email me” features!

Second, I have revamped my portrait photography business model, which means that new pricing will be going into effect on March 5.  Any session booked on or after March 5 will be subject to the new rates.

But finally, the most exciting news — and the reason for the new pricing — is that I am now providing my portrait clients with digital negatives!  I have developed five portrait collections for my clients to choose from, and each one includes the fully retouched digital negatives for every image in your gallery.  That means that after your session, you’ll receive a disc of images from which you can print and enlarge the photos yourself.  You’ll also be able to share the photos with friends and family digitally and keep an archive of your session forever.

I decided to take my business this direction for two reasons: first of all, I think it will make my life better.  Instead of being in the business of selling loose prints, I can focus on the boutique products — like gallery-wrapped canvases and session albums — that my clients are not able to obtain on their own.  But more importantly, I decided to start offering digital negatives because they add a lot of value for my clients.  Digital files are very versatile and valuable things.  Not only do they allow you to print an unlimited number of photos, but they can also be posted on Facebook, e-mailed to Grandma, utilized for digital scrapbooking . . .  And most importantly of all, you’ll have a permanent digital back-up of your photos that hopefully your children can show their grandchildren someday.

I am really excited about this change.  If you’re interested in booking a session or just want to learn more about the new digital collections, shoot me an e-mail!

And finally, because a post wouldn’t be a post without a photo, here are a couple gratuitous shots of my adorable nephew — enjoy!

The holidays are comin’

Yep, it’s getting to be that time again already — can you believe it?!  That means it’s time to start thinking about holiday mini-sessions!  This year’s mini-sessions will include 30 minutes of shooting time with me, 5-10 images in your proofing gallery, a set of 48 gorgeous holiday cards featuring your family’s images (see below!), and an 11×14 mounted print of your favorite image from the mini-session.  The mini-session fee will be $325.  All mini-sessions will be scheduled for the weekend of November 1-2, so be sure to let me know soon if you’re interested — the first family to schedule their mini-session gets to help me choose the location!  :)

Now I get to share this year’s holiday cards!  They are super cute.  There are five designs to choose from, all 5×7 folded cards with full color spreads on each panel and multiple spaces to showcase your favorite images from this year.  And each design is completely customizable!  Want your cards to say “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays”?  You got it!  Want more traditional red-and-green colors?  You can have that too!  Your cards will be one-of-a-kind.  And you don’t have to schedule a mini-session to take advantage of these beautiful cards — if you’ve had a session recently and want to use those images for your card, that’s great!  Samples of all five styles are below, so pick your favorite and let me know!  The deadline for ordering holiday cards will be November 30.

Introducing baby to the world

I’m very excited to unveil two new lines of birth announcements! These gorgeous new announcements are the perfect mixture of the classical and whimsical, traditional and contemporary.

The first set of announcements are 5×5 folded cards that feature your favorite newborn image.  The font, text, and colors on each announcement are completely customizable, so we can create a design that fits you perfectly!

The second set of announcements are 5×5 flat cards.  Again, all fonts, text, and colors are completely customizable.

Remember — all newborn sessions include a set of 24 custom birth announcements.  Seriously, don’t they just make you want to have a baby?!  :)

Products to love

I’ve had several clients order canvases and albums recently, and I am just so in love with these products that I wanted to share them with everyone!  If you’re looking for a special way to display the images from your photo session, you can’t beat these.

First, my favorite-favorite-favorite product is the gallery-wrap canvas.  Your image is printed on museum-quality art canvas and hand-stretched around a 1 1/2″ wooden frame.  The “gallery wrap” part means that your image continues around the side of the frame, so it looks gorgeous from all angles!  The photo is still tack sharp, but the texture of the canvas adds such a beautiful quality to the portrait that it’s hard to appreciate without seeing one in person.  And the best part: a gallery-wrap canvas comes ready to hang, right out of the package!  So while it is more expensive than a loose print, you’ll save money in the long run because you won’t have to pay to have your canvas matted and framed.  I really can’t say enough about the beauty of these canvases–my office and home are covered in them, I love them so much!  Take a look at some of the details:

Now my other favorite product–because I’m the type of person who can never choose which photos I like best–is the beautiful leather session album.  This album contains all of the prints from your session, which means you don’t have to spend hours agonizing over which prints to order!  You can choose 4×6 or 5×7 prints, and each photo is slipped into a double-sided black mat page, which is a gorgeous display that also allows you to remove photos you want to display in frames, lend to grandma, etc.  There is a 2.5″ square opening on the front for your favorite photo, and each album comes in a fabric-lined presentation box for safe-keeping.  The 4×6 album is available in black leather only, but the 5×7 album can be ordered in black or brown leather–both are beautiful!

I also love this last product: the accordion “brag book” album.  Perfect for grandparents, this accordion-style album holds your 12 favorite 4×6 prints.  Cloth covers are available in black, light blue, and maroon, and leather covers are available in black, brown, and pearl.  These also have a 2.5″ square opening on the cover for your favorite image and come in a fabric-lined presentation box.  It’s small enough to fit in your purse so you can take it anywhere!

If you’d like to see any of these products in person, just let me know–I have samples of all of them.  You will absolutely be blown away!
