Now, I am a photographer, not a videographer. I have taken only one video in my entire life, on an old point-and-shoot camera I had almost two years ago. The video was of my two cats, who were having all kinds of fun with the box and packaging in which our wedding album had been shipped to us. I wanted to show the video — all twenty seconds of it — to my mom, so I created a YouTube account and posted it on the site. She watched it, we had a good laugh about it, and that (I thought) was the end of it.

But every once in a blue moon I get an e-mail saying that someone has posted a comment on my video. I usually ignore these e-mails, but I got another one today (in Spanish, no less!) that I decided to investigate a bit. I went back to my video’s YouTube page and saw that my silly little cat video has been viewed 4,431 times! I know that’s not a lot by YouTube standards, but it was pretty incredible to me! It’s collected comments, ratings, even favorites! And to my surprise, I was actually able to still log in to my YouTube account, where I found a message waiting for me from someone asking permission to use my video clip in a “‘pets and boxes’ episode of a cute pet video podcast”! Crazy, huh? I have no idea who watches enough YouTube to stumble across such a ridiculous thing as my twenty-second cat video (other than my husband, I guess, who spends most of day watching YouTube videos as far as I can tell), but it definitely gave me a good laugh.

Back from the dead

Omigoodness, I have so much blogging to catch up on! My life has been craaaaaazy the past couple weeks, and I have so much to share. I mentioned in my last post that we’ve had a new addition to the family: our puppy, Ollie. Well, the day after we brought him home to Houston, my husband and I packed up and moved to the Dallas-Forth Worth area! Then, just three days later, I hopped on a plane to Ireland for a 10-day vacation, from which I just got home last night. After a good night’s sleep, I feel like I’m finally ready to start sharing the millions of photos I’ve been taking!

Here are a few from our move . . . into our first house!

I left Houston early in the morning before the movers arrived and brought the puppy and cats up to the house, where we hung out alone in an empty house for eight hours!

As you can see, it was pretty much just me, the pets, and some dog toys.

The kitties took it upon themselves to inspect every inch of every room in the house.

The only break in the monotony of the day was when Sears delivered our brand new refrigerator! I am pretty darn excited about it. (And yes, being excited about appliances means you are officially old!)

When you open this baby up, the Hallelujah Chorus plays!

Anyway, after several hours of sitting around with no internet connection and nothing to do, I started taking photos of the pets in the kitchen. It has a huge skylight and the light is gorgeous!

On a side note, the relationship between the puppy and cats has, unfortunately, not improved much. This photo pretty much tells the whole story:

As you can see, the cats give Ollie a wide berth! The only good part is that the cats seem to have been united in their hatred of Ollie . . .

I’ve never seen them so friendly before!

But that was pretty much it for the move. By now we’ve gotten all the furniture where it belongs, although there are still lots of finishing touches to get in order. I’m not starting my new job until October 1, though, so I’ll have plenty of time to decorate! Stay tuned for more photos of the new house, the pets, and–of course–Ireland!

Kitty cats

Today I thought I’d introduce the world to our two kitties: Tater and Lucy. Tater is the orange one; her real name is actually Sweet Potato because of her color, but we always call her Tater for short. We got her for my husband’s birthday a couple years ago, so she is a little more than two years old now. Tater is a bit cantankerous, but she’s extremely smart and can be very sweet when she wants to be.

Lucy is the gray one, and she’s almost a year old now. She may not be as smart as Tater, but she makes up for it with her good nature and cuddly-ness! She’s also very demanding–when she meows, you better be ready to pet her!

I love both kitties so much, not least of all because they let me take their pictures all the time! Plus, I never had pets when I was a kid, so these guys mean a lot to me. And we’re getting ready for a new addition to the family–a puppy this time! We are getting a baby Old English Sheepdog at the end of August, so stay tuned for lots of photos!

Well, I’m back in Houston on this rainy Monday. I got home from my trip to Iowa late last night. I had a fantastic time there, I miss all my friends and family so much! And I even made a new friend while I was there: my parents’ new kitten, Tupo! We had a little photo session, and I must say, she is quite the model! It was so much fun, I actually think I might have a new calling in pet photography!
