Every couple of years I get to take photos of one of my favorite families: my brother- and sister-in-law and their two boys. This is a year of transitions for them–the older son starting kindergarten, the younger starting preschool–and I thought that the best way to memorialize this moment in their lives would be to photograph them at home on a Sunday afternoon, just doing what they do: reading books, playing with their toys, wrestling, laughing, gathering in the kitchen, playing outside… This kind of documentary-style portraiture, capturing “real life” as it happens, has become everything to me. There is such magic in showing people the beauty in their real, chaotic, messy lives. To say that I love these photos–and this family–would be an understatement.

Your talent never ceases to amaze me Emily. Thank you for your beautiful photos. Especially being so far away I feel like I get at least a little glimpse into all your lives this way and get to stay connected in a way:)ReplyCancel
