My philosophy . . .

I love working with people who are fun.  Genuine.  Real.  And that’s what my photography is really all about: capturing the real you.  I can see the connections between the members of your family and the beauty in each one of you -- and that’s what I want to capture with my camera.

I don’t do the typical matching-outfits portraits, or the canvas-backdrop-strobe-lighting-say-cheese portraits.  I don’t want you to worry about having perfect hair, perfect smiles, and the kids on their best behavior.  Relax.  Have fun.  Be yourself.  I want to show you your family the way I see it through my lens: happy, beautiful, flawless in spite of the flaws.

So when I show up for your session, you don’t have to do any pretending.  Just be real.  I like t-shirts and jeans and flip-flops.  And jammies.  And mussed up hair and lollipop-stained faces.  I love hugs and tickle fights and peals of laughter, and snuggles and kisses too.  These things are real.  This is the way I want to remember my family, and it’s the way I want to help you remember yours.

YouTube really is amazing

Now, I am a photographer, not a videographer.  I have taken only one video in my entire life, on an old point-and-shoot camera I had almost two years ago.  The video was of my two cats, who were having all kinds of fun with the box and packaging in which our wedding album had been shipped to us.  I wanted to show the video — all twenty seconds of it — to my mom, so I created a YouTube account and posted it on the site.  She watched it, we had a good laugh about it, and that (I thought) was the end of it.

But every once in a blue moon I get an e-mail saying that someone has posted a comment on my video.  I usually ignore these e-mails, but I got another one today (in Spanish, no less!) that I decided to investigate a bit.  I went back to my video’s YouTube page and saw that my silly little cat video has been viewed 4,431 times!  I know that’s not a lot by YouTube standards, but it was pretty incredible to me!  It’s collected comments, ratings, even favorites!  And to my surprise, I was actually able to still log in to my YouTube account, where I found a message waiting for me from someone asking permission to use my video clip in a “‘pets and boxes’ episode of a cute pet video podcast”!  Crazy, huh?  I have no idea who watches enough YouTube to stumble across such a ridiculous thing as my twenty-second cat video (other than my husband, I guess, who spends most of day watching YouTube videos as far as I can tell), but it definitely gave me a good laugh.

And now, for you viewing pleasure, my video:

May it take the Internet by storm!  :)

My pooches

While I was taking photos of the trees in the backyard yesterday morning, the dogs demanded to have their portraits taken.  These have proven to me that it is now nearly impossible to tell them apart!

This one is Ollie (with his typical tongue placement!):

I’m fairly certain this one is Murphy:

Ollie again, I think:

This one is definitely Murphy; he runs in a diagonal line across our backyard over and over again . . .

Here he is taking a break:

And here they are together!  I don’t know why I like this photo so much, it’s completely out of focus . . . but it just seems to fit them!

Backyard beauty

The aftermath of Hurricane Ike was supposed to roar through Dallas this afternoon, so I went outside this morning to take some photos of the pretty crape myrtle tree in my backyard before all the flowers got blown off.  But as I should have predicted, the meteorologists were wrong — Ike pretty much completely missed us.  At least I got some pretty pictures!

And this is a vine on our back fence — any idea what it is?

Four eyes

My husband got some new glasses today.  He’s been wearing contacts for a long time now, but when I first met him five-and-a-half years ago he wore glasses — so seeing him in the new specs today took me back to the days I fell for him!  He was a good sport tonight and let me snap about a million shots of him, even though I was driving him crazy.  But I just love these photos!  Isn’t he cute?!

Sorry ladies, he’s mine!  :)
