Emily McCall Photography bio picture

My philosophy . . .

I love working with people who are fun.  Genuine.  Real.  And that’s what my photography is really all about: capturing the real you.  I can see the connections between the members of your family and the beauty in each one of you -- and that’s what I want to capture with my camera.

I don’t do the typical matching-outfits portraits, or the canvas-backdrop-strobe-lighting-say-cheese portraits.  I don’t want you to worry about having perfect hair, perfect smiles, and the kids on their best behavior.  Relax.  Have fun.  Be yourself.  I want to show you your family the way I see it through my lens: happy, beautiful, flawless in spite of the flaws.

So when I show up for your session, you don’t have to do any pretending.  Just be real.  I like t-shirts and jeans and flip-flops.  And jammies.  And mussed up hair and lollipop-stained faces.  I love hugs and tickle fights and peals of laughter, and snuggles and kisses too.  These things are real.  This is the way I want to remember my family, and it’s the way I want to help you remember yours.

Tom Petty rocks my world

. . . which is why I was probably the first one on the phone when tickets for his Dallas show went on sale last winter!  I’ve seen him in concert before, but it never gets old.  He and the Heartbreakers are my favorite band of all time.

As you can see from the ticket, Steve Winwood was the opening act–not too shabby!  Here he is after his set (he’s in the white shirt).  I just love the sea of fans:

Now, in spite of my super-speedy Ticketmaster dialing finger, you’ll notice our seats were really not that close:

But that’s what the video screens are for!

Take a look at all the pretty lights:

And here’s the man himself, he puts on a great show:

I had to get the Heartbreakers in there:

And just one more shot of the lights (I’m like a child, fascinated by bright things!):

The lighting really was fantastic.  I love the colors in this one:

And my favorite shot of the night:

Last but not least, here’s the whole band, taking a bow:

I’m not exactly unbiased, but I give the concert an A+.  The only bad part: it forced me to realize that I am officially old, because I was exhausted all day today!  No more concerts on work nights for me from now on . . . until Petty’s next swing through Dallas!

Baby on the way

I swear, there must be something in the water — it feels like almost everyone I know is pregnant!  This morning I had a really fun session with some friends who are expecting a baby next month — and because I know the mom-to-be is dying for a peek, here are some of my favorites so far!  I love the sunflare in this one, especially the way it parallels her belly:

And seriously, isn’t she beautiful?!

Her husband humored me for a bit too:

This is one of my favorite-favorites:

Did I mention that their home is gorgeous?

This one makes me smile every time I look at it:

Another favorite:

And I had to get the dog in there too!

Thanks so much, Sabrina and Grant, for letting me spend the morning with you.  I can’t wait for the little guy to get here!

Products to love

I’ve had several clients order canvases and albums recently, and I am just so in love with these products that I wanted to share them with everyone!  If you’re looking for a special way to display the images from your photo session, you can’t beat these.

First, my favorite-favorite-favorite product is the gallery-wrap canvas.  Your image is printed on museum-quality art canvas and hand-stretched around a 1 1/2″ wooden frame.  The “gallery wrap” part means that your image continues around the side of the frame, so it looks gorgeous from all angles!  The photo is still tack sharp, but the texture of the canvas adds such a beautiful quality to the portrait that it’s hard to appreciate without seeing one in person.  And the best part: a gallery-wrap canvas comes ready to hang, right out of the package!  So while it is more expensive than a loose print, you’ll save money in the long run because you won’t have to pay to have your canvas matted and framed.  I really can’t say enough about the beauty of these canvases–my office and home are covered in them, I love them so much!  Take a look at some of the details:

Now my other favorite product–because I’m the type of person who can never choose which photos I like best–is the beautiful leather session album.  This album contains all of the prints from your session, which means you don’t have to spend hours agonizing over which prints to order!  You can choose 4×6 or 5×7 prints, and each photo is slipped into a double-sided black mat page, which is a gorgeous display that also allows you to remove photos you want to display in frames, lend to grandma, etc.  There is a 2.5″ square opening on the front for your favorite photo, and each album comes in a fabric-lined presentation box for safe-keeping.  The 4×6 album is available in black leather only, but the 5×7 album can be ordered in black or brown leather–both are beautiful!

I also love this last product: the accordion “brag book” album.  Perfect for grandparents, this accordion-style album holds your 12 favorite 4×6 prints.  Cloth covers are available in black, light blue, and maroon, and leather covers are available in black, brown, and pearl.  These also have a 2.5″ square opening on the cover for your favorite image and come in a fabric-lined presentation box.  It’s small enough to fit in your purse so you can take it anywhere!

If you’d like to see any of these products in person, just let me know–I have samples of all of them.  You will absolutely be blown away!

Numero uno

Linus is celebrating the all-important first birthday this month, so we got together Saturday morning for a photo session to commemorate the occasion!  I work with Linus’s mom, and she and her husband are my heroes: they have just moved into a new house, but managed to clear enough space for us to do the shoot at their new home!  How they managed, I’ll never know.  But I was really glad they did, because the light was gorgeous–and so was Linus!  I’m such a sucker for those big brown eyes . . . Take a look!
